Uri L′Tezedek

There are many ways you can get involved with Tav HaYosher!

1. Sign the Letter of Support

2. Partnership building with potential kosher eating establishments is a crucial part of the Tav HaYosher. As a Partnership Builder, you will become a core part of the Uri L'Tzedek volunteer team and will meet with restaurant owners to inspire them to sign onto the Tav HaYosher. Discussing advantages of publicity and promotion, the Tav Chevrati in Israel, and communal leadership/kiddush Hashem, you will engage in meaningful and sometimes challenging discussions with potential Tav restaurant owners. You will visit restaurants, sign them on using the Tav HaYosher license agreement, and complete the initial verification. Your efforts, time, and commitment are a critical component for helping us to bring community, kosher eating establishment owners, and workers together to create just workplaces. In order to become a Partnership Builder, you must attend a training and a shadow meeting.

3. Become a Compliance Officer

Compliance Officers play a crucial role in the Tav HaYosher by ensuring the fair and ethical treatment of restaurant workers. Each CO is given between 1 and 3 restaurants, which they visit  every 6-8 weeks to interview workers about their hours, pay, work environment, and other important legal and ethical concerns. These one-on-one interviews allow the CO's to develop trusting relationships with workers and demonstrate that their well-being is important to the Jewish community. In addition to their work in the field, Compliance Officers take advantage of unique opportunities to network with one another and with the leadership of Uri L'Tzedek through exclusive events and online forums. In order to become a Compliance Officer, you must attend a training and a shadow visit.

Upcoming Trainings:

4. Advocate. Pick up the phone and call your local kosher restaurant. Ask for the owner or manager, and in a supportive, encouraging way, let them know you would like for them to carry the Tav. This method of consumer activism has been very effective.

5. Educate. Tell your shul, school, friends, relatives, whoever about the Tav! Give a drasha, write a blog post, send an email, help us get the message out!

6. Donate. We do not charge restaurants for the Tav. That means we rely on donors like you to keep this work sustainable. Whether it’s $10 or $10,000, every gift is crucial.
