On Tuesday, July 24th at 4:00pm, join the movement to restore dignity to low-wage workers in Union Square, 14th Street, NYC. RSVP ON FACEBOOK TODAY!
Join Uri L'Tzedek and a group of 60 different faith and labor organizations to stand in solidarity with workers on July 24, the National Day of Action for Low Wage Workers, as a part of Uri L'Tzedek's 2012 #ULTCitizenship Civic Engagement campaign and the Kavod HaPoel/Dignity of Worker's Campaign. Uri L’Tzedek seeks to achieve its social justice goals through not only ensuring that the minimum wage standard is upheld in kosher restaurants, but also through the constant struggle to achieve a higher standard for workers in the service industry. The current minimum wage of $7.25 per hour is poverty wage. No one can live on $7.25—especially in NYC. Over 352,000 NYC residents work for less than $8.50 per hour. Working full-time at $7.25 per hour amounts to just over $15,000 a year, which is over $5,000 below the federal poverty threshold for a family of four. Help Uri L'Tzedek create a unified Jewish statement that when people work, they should be able to live dignified lives based on their labor.
A Press Conference will be held at 3:30 PM on Broadway between 33rd and 32 Street, followed by an interfaith, worker-led, community driven action at 5:00 PM at Union Square Park East. At 6:30, help us create pop-up Batei Midrash in Union Square where we will study Torah on worker's rights in Jewish text. Please email
